What is it?
Peyronie’s disease (PD) is a penile disorder causing unusual curvature of the penis when erect. The abnormal curving of the penis is due to scar tissue caused by inflammation
Individuals most at risk for this disease tend to be between the ages of 40 to 70 years, those with underlying connective tissue disorders or those with genetic predisposition to Peyronie’s.
What are the symptoms?
The main symptom is the formation of plaques on the penis which tends to leave the penis more rigid during erections.
The plaques in turn lead to multiple other symptoms:
- Extreme curvature of the erect penis
- Painful erections
- Difficulty with intercourse
As a result of these symptoms, many individuals also eventually suffer on psychological basis, such as being more stressed or depressed due to the disorder affecting their sexual performance.
What causes it?
Peyronie’s Disease results from repeated injury to the penis. For example, the penis might be damaged during sex, athletic activity or as the result of an accident. However, most often, no specific trauma to the penis is recalled.
The cause of Peyronie’s disease isn’t completely understood, but a number of factors appear to be involved.
What are the treatment options?
SOUND WAVE (SW) THERAPY
Sound Wave therapy may be beneficial in the management of PD for penile pain and associated ED (erectile dysfunction). SW therapy seems to be a safe and effective non-invasive modality in the treatment of PD and its subsequent complications.
INJECTION THERAPY FOR MEN
For men with Peyronie’s disease the Injection Therapy has been shown to help straighten the penis shaft, allowing for better penetration during intercourse.
INJECTION OF COLLAGENASE
Collagenase clostridium histolyticum is a medication which is used to treat Peyronie’s disease in adult men.
What is a Low Testosterone (Low T)
Low testosterone, or male hypogonadism, is a condition in which the body doesn’t produce enough testosterone — the hormone that plays a key role in masculine development and ongoing health.
Testosterone is the hormone that contributes to male sexual arousal, erection and ejaculation. Low levels of testosterone can be a cause of erectile dysfunction.
In adult males, hypogonadism may alter certain masculine physical characteristics and impair normal reproductive function, muscle mass and bone strength. It is a factor in mood, clarity of thought and concentration
What are the symptoms?
- Decreased libido
- Erectile dysfunction
- Decreased frequency of morning erections
- Decreased performance
- Loss of energy
- Depression/depressed mood
May also include
Changes in body composition:
- Increased body fat
- Decreased muscle mass
- Low bone mineral density
Low sexual desire alone may not mean that you have Low-T. But if you have a combination of low sexual desire, reduced erectile function, and feelings of sadness and tiredness, you should talk to our doctors.
What is the solution:
PRP
The Priapus Shot or P-Shot is a treatment that can help treat erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease and premature ejaculation. The Priapus shot can lead to increased sensation/pleasure and straightening (Peyronie’s). The treatment involves drawing the patient’s blood, processing it and then injecting a component of the blood called platelet rich plasma into the tissue of the penis. Platelet rich plasma is known to contain many growth factors that can help improve sexual performance by stimulating cells to regenerate collagen, blood vessel and ultimately restoring a strong tissue structure. The injection itself takes about 5 minutes to perform, and the rest of the procedure is about 25 minutes. There are minimal side effects, light pinching or pressure feeling can sometimes be experienced during the procedure and expect to have bruising around the injected sites. The Priapus shot can be used in conjunction with Shockwave therapy to improve results.
Premature Ejaculation
What is premature ejaculation?
Premature ejaculation consists of ejaculations occurring earlier than desired during sexual intercourse. It is the most common sexual disorder among male individuals and can occur to an individual of almost any age.
What Causes Premature Ejaculation (PE)?
There are several factors, both physical and biological, that may contribute to your premature ejaculation signs and symptoms. Get to know the most primary causes of PE:
- Depression
- Stress
- Low testosterone
- “Performance” anxiety
- Intense arousal or excitement
- Hormonal issues
- Certain prescription medications
Symptoms
The timing related to when the man ejaculates prematurely is the best indicator of the condition and its severity. This may range from before penetration to a point just after penetration. It may leave the couple feeling unsatisfied.
Chronic premature ejaculation may be a sign of anxiety or depression. A psychiatrist or psychologist can help treat these conditions.
Causes of premature ejaculation
Premature ejaculation is a common complaint. It is only rarely caused by a physical problem. Premature ejaculation early in a relationship is most often caused by anxiety and too much stimulation. Guilt and other psychological factors may also be involved. The condition usually improves without treatment.
TESTOSTERONE THERAPY
Low levels of testosterone can cause decreased libido, decreased energy levels, weak or absent erections, brain fog amongst other symptoms. Testosterone Replacement therapy can compensate for low levels of testosterone within an individual’s system and can be used to treat the symptoms mentioned above amongst others. The route of administration of testosterone can vary and is decided by the doctor based on the patient’s medical history, it can be applied:
- Trans-dermally with a skin patch or mouth patch
- Topically using a gel
- Subcutaneous through injection or implants
Testosterone is a hormone that is involved in many processes within the body ranging from bone strengthening to red blood cell production, making the therapy’s’ potential effects range anywhere from subtle changes to significant benefits in overall quality of life. These changes can be felt after about 1-month post-treatment however the full scope of benefits will only be experienced 6 months after the treatment is done.
ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION
What is erectile dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to achieve or maintain an erection for sexual intercourse over an acceptable period of time. It is a common condition found mainly in males aged 40 years or older.
ED can differ significantly from patient to patient, some patients might suffer from soft erections not suitable for sexual intercourse while others may find that they are able to have erections but having difficulty maintaining it.
What are the symptoms?
Individuals suffering from ED can be subjected to:
- Inability to have an erection
- Difficulty maintaining an erection during intercourse
- Trouble getting an erection despite stimulation
Often these symptoms lead to further psychological symptoms such as a loss in confidence or low self-esteem.
What are the causes?
Most erectile dysfunction cases are caused by either non-endocrine or endocrine factors.
- Non-Endocrine
Vasculogenic etiology is the main culprit behind ED when it comes to non-endocrine causes. The blood supply that has limitations in either the arterial inflow or venous outflow of blood can lead to ED. There are also neurogenic causes of ED caused by stroke, diabetes or Multiple scleroris as well as psychogenic causes as well where ED is worsened by performance anxiety.
- Endocrine
Testosterone plays an essential role in helping produce and maintain erections. Low circulating levels of testosterone, also known as hypogonadism, is the main endocrine cause leading to ED.
The main causes of premature ejaculation have not been fully confirmed but it is thought that it could involve multiple biological, social or psychological factors. This could include:
Social: Relationship conflicts
Biological: Alcohol abuse, prostate inflammation, hormonal imbalances
Psychological: Stress, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety
Solution
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy offers a non-invasive treatment that can help individual’s suffering from erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, as well as premature ejaculation. This therapy consists of using a wand-like device that produces shockwaves on the penis shaft to stimulate penile tissue which promotes blood flow to the penis, producing an erection. The treatment only lasts 30 minutes and there is very little pain or discomfort associated with the treatment, only potential tingling following the treatment due to increased blood flow. Furthermore, there is no need for a post-treatment recovery period and individuals can resume daily activities straight after. Shockwave therapy is a unique treatment where the benefits heavily outweigh the risks. Even individuals with other health conditions are not at risk with this treatment. Moreover, results from treatment can be noticed as early as 2 weeks post-treatment and can possibly last for an entire year.
